Though it was misty and visibility was poor, I noticed the dark silhouette of a figure emerging out of the fog heading right towards me. He pulled out his umbrella to shield from the light rain and as he moved into the right position I captured a moment in time that epitomizes the energy of New York City on a rainy afternoon with the iconic arches of the Brooklyn Bridge in the background.
For some reason, I've been drawn to the iconic arches of the Brooklyn Bridge since I was a kid. I don't know if it's the organized chaos of the web that holds up the structure, the location, the functionality or a combination of them all. There is just something magical about it and the very first time I visited New York City, the Brooklyn Bridge was my starting point. At the time I took this image there was a thick blanket of fog engulfing Manhattan which helped add to the isolation of the arches from the city skyline and when the man opened up his umbrella, I knew I had a winner of a shot.
I couldn't feel the rain myself so I have always wondered why he decided to open up his umbrella just as I was about to take this shot because although it seems as though I'm close, I shot this zoomed in so I was quite far away and it's very unlikely he would have known what I was doing... This is the Mystery Manhattan.
