This is probably my most favorite shot of LA. The sunsets are exceptionally breathtaking in this part of the world and it's really not that hard to take amazing shots here - just point and shoot.
As soon as I touched down in LAX to start my first 20,000 mile tour of the USA I raced over to the car hire to sign up then drove down to Venice Beach. The sun was nearly kissing the horizon when I arrived so my choice of shots was extremely limited. I started near Hotel California and made my way down towards the Santa Monica Pier grabbing a few shots along the way. I love being at the beach so I was really in my element here.
In this image I love the silhouette of palm trees that help frame the bold colors of the sunset and the tiny pier and mountains beyond that help tell my story. There were a lot of people using the path in the foreground but I wanted simplicity so I waited until the coast was clear before I snapped this shot. I did manage to grab some shots with the people walking along the path but I found the landscape became too watered down to make a real impact, so 'Cali Sunset' reigns supreme.
